The Petition of Ann Henderson formerly Ann McGregor and Peter McGregor her elder son
 
Humbly Sheweth
That sometime after the death of your Petitioners first husband, certain Lands were appertained to your Petitioner and certain branches of her family by the deceased Donald McGregor that appears by the copy of a Document under of Lewis Dennis Deputy Surveyor herewith ?? ;- thus from some circumstance unknown to your Petitioner the Grant tho’ ordered some years back (the fees therein being paid) has never reached your Petitioner, whereby they have been injured, and in fact almost turned off the premises by persons having no claim thereto.
 
Your Petitioner  further humbly to present that owing to their not receiving the Grant
That they have not been able to prevent intruders wasting the Lands by cutting and carrying away best timber and cut wood from the same.
 
Your Petitioner Peter McGregor humbly prays that if it will not interfere with the arrangements made by your Excellency in granting Lands that the whole quantity to wit two hundred acres be in the hands of his mother; or otherwise apportion in said Grant in shares To himself and such of his surviving sisters, his brother George being settled leaving his mother share of thirty acres as before settled-
 
May it therefore please your Excellency to consider your Petitioners case, and order a Grant to be made out as in your Excellency’s wisdom shall?  ?? must? Proper -
 
And Your Petitioners etc duty bound will ever Pray

Ann Henderson’s Petition 1826

 
To His Excellency Major General Howard Douglas Lieutenant Governor and Commander in Chief of the Province of New Brunswick etc. etc. etc.
 
The Petition of Ann Henderson Mary Ann Forth, Peter McGregor, Ann McGregor, Mary Malone, Eliza Foy and Susan McGregor most humbly Sheweth:
 
That your Petitioner Ann Henderson at present widow of the late George Henderson was the widow formerly and your other Petitioners the children of the late Donald McGregor who resided in the County of Northumberland and was one of the earliest settlers on the South West Branch of the Miramichi River in the same County.
 
That the same Donald McGregor was in his life for upwards of ten years in possession of and did obtain a minute of Council for a certain Tract of Land situated between the upper Boundary Line of the Land granted to the late William Davidson on the South West Branch of the said River Miramichi beginning at the Elice Tree? In the Grant   ???    ??? and extending up the same South West Branch to the lower Boundary Line of the Reserved Land at Indian Town (so called) and containing in the whole two hundred acres or thereabouts –
 
That at the time the said Donald McGregor settled upon the said Land it was wholly in a wilderness state. And that during his lifetime he made the ?? a clearance of about ten acres.
 
That  ?? the death of the said Donald McGregor his heirs made an application for a Grant of the same Lands as minuted to the said Donald McGregor as aforesaid in his lifetime and that they thereto received a favourable answer – But that having always been given to understand that no Grant for the same ?? be obtained until the said children should all arrive at the full age – nothing further relative to the same has once? Been done
 
And your Petitioner further beg leave to state to you Excellency that the same Donald McGregor was also in his lifetime possessed of the following Tracts of ??? Lands That is to say small quantity of Reserved Lands situate about two miles from the mouth of the Renous River (so called) On the Northerly side thereto and known by the name? of the Big Alabanguis?: being in the whole about ten acres in a state of improvements. And also another Tract of Reserved Land situate at the mouth of the said Renous River on Southerly side thereof and known by the name of McLean’s Point which is also in an improved state – ten acres or thereabouts of the same being cleared and under cultivation the whole tract containing two hundred Acres or thereabout.
 
That your Petitioner Mary Ann Firth is the wife of John Firth by whom she has seven children is the eldest child of the said Donald McGregor- That the said Peter McGregor is the next eldest child and the only son living of the said Donald McGregor; of the said Ann McGregor is the next eldest to the said Peter McGregor – of the said Mary Malone is the next eldest to the said Ann McGregor and wife of John Malone by whom she had one child - That the said Eliza Foy wife of the said John Foy is next to the said Mary and the said Susan McGregor the next and youngest child of the said Donald McGregor.
 
That the children are all with the exception of Susan who is in her minority of years of full age. That George McGregor named in a former memorial has since died.
 
Your Petitioner Peter McGregor would further beg leave most respectfully to state to your Excellency that the family being so large and he being as yet unmarried it his wish to re?/ quick any claim he may or might have to the same Land or any part thereof in favour of his said mother and sisters – and that a Grant for the same may pass to this entire exclusion of him the said Peter McGregor.
 
That your Petitioner have understood that it is the intention of Government to Grant the Lands hereto reserved to Crown and that that they would therefor first described? And minuted to the said Donald McGregor in his lifetime and since his death confirmed to his heirs as aforesaid – as also the said two Tracts of reserved Land  occupied `as improved by the said Donald McGregor as before said together  with ???  ???  ??? Quantity to the Big Alabouguir? or thereabout (if it shall in your Excellency’s libourality and wisdom  ?? meet as to do pass? To your Petitioners and that the same may be granted  ?? six equal shares to the said Ann Henderson; Mary Ann Firth; Ann McGregor; Mary Malone, Eliza Foy and Susan McGregor or a such as are married unto them respecting husbands  in their Rights - ??  To them as Tenants in Common
 
That your Petitioners have not directly or ??? ??? with ant person or persons for the bargaining or transfer of the same or any part thereof – should your Excellency be graciously pleased to grant the same in measures?? As aforesaid-
 
?? the said Donald McGregor was a native of Scotland ?? he came to this province on or about the early settlement of it and that your Petitioners his said children were all born in the said Province and have ever resided in the same –
 
That they are of ability and intend to cultivate and improve the same in all respects agreeably to the Royal Instructions? –
 
And Your Petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray
