- William Warren first shows up in Quebec City in 1765 where he petitions James Murray, Governor of Quebec, and records he had in 1763 purchased a brewery, along with Margaret (Page) Marshall in Lower Town on Champlain Street at the south end of the King’s Wharf. The facility included a dwelling house, brew house, store and stables, along with utensils.
In August 1768 he sold the property. He appears in a transaction with Caaptain Samuel Holland, along with Jacob Stagman, Henry Gouldrup, Daniel McCann and Thomas Skatforth, being granted land on lot 28 on Prince Edward Island. He relocated to Prince Edward Island later that year. William Warren married Jane, the widow of John Gouldrup, in 1771 at Tyron, Prince Edward Island. She was from Quebec City. William was a Mariner and, Shipbuilder and Farmer. He was a Captain in the British Forces that fought in the Seven Years War and a member of the first Legislative Assembly held on 4 July 1773. Samuel Holland was trying to interest some of the former soldiers in Quebec to settle in Prince Edward Island. “Captain Samuel Holland Surveyor General for his Majesty’s Northern District of North American on the one part and William Warren, Jacob Stagman, Henry Gouldrup, Daniel McCann, and Thomas Shatforth on the other part” dated 25 April 1768 conveyed land on the Tryon River to these men.
William was the owner of a schooner called Tryon that was constructed in 1789 and registered in Prince Edward Island. His occupation ‘Mariner’., as well as other ships.
William and Jane’s daughter Mary (Polly) Warren married John Foy at Tyron, Prince Edward Island.
