-George Bowers was born in 1590 at Manby, Lincolnshire, England. On 9 February 1615 at Braithwell he married Barbara Smythe who was born in 1596 in Braithwell, Yorkshire England. They migrated before 1637 to the Plymouth Colony firstly at Situate, Massachusetts then to Plymouth where he was Constable for Plymouth in 1639. In 1640 they moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1641 he was one of 8 men who built the largest ship built in the colony to that time. He also built the first jail in Plymouth.
Their daughter Patience married Humphrey Bradshaw in about 1653.
