Notes for Walter Palmer - Direct Ancestor (Family North American Pioneer)
-Walter Palmer was born 9 October 1585 in Dorset, England. He was a tall and vigorous man, standing at 6 foot 5 inches.  He married Ann _____? before 1608 , and after bearing five children she died in England. He emigrated to Massachusetts on board the ship “Four Sisters” arriving with his brother Abraham in July 1629. He was charged with manslaughter the next year but was found not guilty by a jury. He was made a freeman on 18 May 1631. He was a Separatist Puritan.  He travelled through the wilderness where he built the first house in what they called Charlestown, named after the king. Walter married Rebecca Short on 1 June 1633. He stayed there until 1643, when with William Chesebrough they moved to the Plymouth Colony, and on 24 August 1643 setting up a new town called Rehoboth.  John Winthrop Jr. convinced Walter and William Chesebrough to move to Connecticut, which they did in 1653. Walter and William are recognized as founders of Stonington, Connecticut, U.S.A. The first church services in Stonington were held in Walter Palmer’s house. He served as a Constable and Selectman during those early years.

Their daughter Rebecca Palmer married John Baldwin. In the next generation their daughter Mary Baldwin married John Randall.
