-Sylvester Baldwin was born about 1600 in Aston Clinton, Buckinghamshire, England. He married Sarah Bryan in 1620 in Aston Clinton. They emigrated to New England in 1638 on board the “Martin”. Sylvester died on the trip to New England on 21 July 1638 and was likely buried at sea. His widow, with her six children, settled at New Haven, Connecticut and was one of the first settlers there. She married as her second husband Captain John Astwood on 2 August 1640.  
 
Sylvester and Sarah’s son married Rebecca Palmer, daughter of Walter Palmer on 24 July 1672 at Volntoun, Connecticut. In the next generation their daughter Mary Baldwin married John Randall. Sylvester and Sarah’s daughter Mary married Robert Plumb. Their son John Plumb married Elizabeth Norton.
