-James Burns was born 7 April 1744 in Kinclavin, Perthshire, Scotland. On 20 October 1776 in Kinclavin he married Barbara Stewart who was born on 27 June 1748 at Tulloch, Perthshire, Scotland. They migrated to the Burns Settlement in Prince Edward Island by 1802. There they purchased 1,000 acres and built several Woolen Mills. Barbara Stewart was a great-grandchild of the High Stewart’s of Scotland and Robert the Bruce.
Their youngest son John Nelson Burns married Abigail Bradshaw on 31 December 1823, she was a granddaughter of Abraham Bradshaw from Shoreham, Nova Scotia a great-grandson of Humphrey Bradshaw of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
