Notes for James Brown - Direct Ancestor (Family North American Pioneer)
-James Brown was born on 25 April 1752 in Taunton, Somerset, England and as a young man joined the British Navy. He married Mary Marr who was born at Gateshead, New Castle on the Tyne, England in about 1779. They emigrated in the 1770s and settled in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. James fought for the English during the Revolutionary War and he was attainted of high treason and black listed. He made his way to Canada in 1799 and eventually settled in Markham, Ontario.
His eldest daughter Margaret Brown born 24 November 1781 at Upper Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, married John Udell in 1800 at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. They moved to Pickering Ontario.
